      Just up the Beeline Highway from Payson, Tom and Diane Speakman, proprietors of Masqua Productions, live in an A-Frame mountain cabin on the edge of the Tonto National Forest (named, like the Lone Ranger's trusty sidekick, for the local branch of the Apache tribe). It's not a bad life. In the Fall, when woodsmoke from stove fires hangs over the pine forest, you can hear the bugle-call of migrating elk echo through the valley. In Winter, icicles dangle from snow-blanketed roof eaves, while neighborhood horses load up on sweet feed to heat themselves up from the inside out. When Spring rolls around, the hummingbirds return from their Winter roosts in Old Mexico, and warm sun showers make mists of hatchling dragon flies rise off the forest floor. Summer's pure joy, with barbeque spare ribs on the back deck and hikes up Strawberry Mountain - but look out for mama black bears with their cubs!<P>      If you ask Diane (the "Ma-Squaw" for whom the store is named), she'll tell you about the time she saw a mama and her cub in the parking lot of the local restaurant that "bears" their name - the Black Bear Restaurant. Or maybe she'll tell you about the racoons that live in the hollow of the old alligator juniper out in back of the cabin. Or maybe she'll tell you about her grandbabies. Ask Tom about anything and he's likely to let Diane tell you about it (he's a friendly quiet type). But don't you be shy, too!
